AV EDGE Executive Director

 

Job Description

This position of the Executive Director of Antelope Valley Economic Development & Growth Enterprise (AV EDGE) will establish, grow, and effectuate relationships with business and industry as well as state, local, and federal government leaders to achieve the goals and objectives of the AV EDGE Board of Directors, which is to stimulate a diversified and strong economic climate in the Greater Antelope Valley Region. The ED will work to establish and maintain AV EDGE as the economic resource within the region.

The ED will be responsible for the general administration and fiscal management of the organization, working closely with the board of directors, Executive Committee, and other committee chairs as directed. Other duties include organizing an annual business conference of 800+ attendees, driving the production of an annual economic report, grant management, and coordination of legislative advocacy visits for members to both Sacramento and Washington D.C.

Candidates considered most qualified will be those that can demonstrate the ability to plan strategically, implement best practices, work in highly political and confidential environments, network with key stakeholders, and assist the board of directors to take the organization to the next level, and having advocacy or lobbying experience and established relationships with local elected leaders and the community.

 

Required Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Business, Economics, Political Science, or related field and three years of professional experience OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

 

Essential Duties

·         Board Relations

o   Generate annual near term and long term program plans with the Board and obtain Board approval

o   Develop, maintain and execute the organization’s annual work plan of projects and deliverables.

o   Regularly report status to the Board to ensure they are kept up to date on organizational progress.

 

·         Business Assistance, Retention & Recruitment

o   Provide assistance and support for existing and prospective new businesses in the Greater Antelope Valley region.

o   Perform and supply economic/demographic research to businesses.

o   Actively seek out information on business development (local and regional) that could impact the economic health of the region.

 

·         County/Municipal Coordination

o   Develop and advocate for municipal policies that enhance the economic health of North Los Angeles/East Kern counties, cities, and communities.

o   Communicate with government agencies including, Los Angeles and Kern counties and its communities, Los Angeles EDC, Kern EDC, and the state of California, concerning AV EDGE activities, projects and goals.

o   Seek support, including funding, from government agencies to implement AV EDGE priorities.

o   Work with the cities, county, state and their departments toward mutual goals and objectives.

o   Research and disseminate information on governmental activities that could impact the economic health of the region.

o   Perform economic impact analysis and generate reports on important issues facing the region.

 

·         Community Outreach

o   Maintain awareness and contact with a wide variety of community groups and associations to achieve AV EDGE goals.

o   Provide network connections throughout the county and local organizations, understanding their assets, skills and interests, such that this network can be utilized to link needs and capabilities for business opportunities.

 

·         Office Administration

o   Plan, schedule, and publicize EDC sponsored events and seminars, including annual Business Outlook Conference.

o   Oversee preparation of all budgets and financial statements and obtain Board approval for all AV EDGE commitments.

o   Generate scopes of work or request for proposals for all sub-contracted work approved by the Board; negotiate and prepare contracts for Board signature.

o   Hire, train, manage and evaluate staff and sub-contractors as approved by the Board.

 

Salary

$75,000 - $100,000 commensurate with education and experience, plus incentive opportunities based on organizational growth
